She said “Go away – I’ll never call anyone else my husband.” That’s how Rachel responded to Taner’s request for a date. At the time, Rachel was widowed for 2 years after losing her husband Rod suddenly at age 32. And Taner was only interested in wanting to learn more about Rachel and her 4-year-old daughter Gretchen. But Rachel wasn’t going to have anything to do with him, because she didn’t have the physical or emotional energy to deal with him. However, being the persistent (and charming) individual he is, Taner didn’t take no for an answer and slowly but surely took meaningful steps to lower Rachel’s defensive walls.
