Are meals provided?
We ask that you feed the kids breakfast prior to dropping them off.
We provide lunch during the day. We also have lots of snacks and water on hand for in between meals.
My child is gluten free/vegetarian/dairy free/picky eater, etc.
We try to provide basic substitutions and make allowances for dietary needs when possible. That said, if your child has a specific dietary requirement or will only eat certain foods we recommend that you send food with them. We will try to send out the meal plan at least one week prior to camp to make it easier for you to plan accordingly.
Does the Kids Camp follow the same schedule as the adult camp?
We will match the start and end times of the adult camp.
Can I pick up my kids early?
Yes, you can check your kids in and out of camp. That said, if they leave camp they are missing out on activities and connections with other campers so please keep that in mind when deciding to check them out.
My teen is hesitant to go. Are there other teens there? Will they really enjoy the kids camp?
Teens are often the most hesitant to go and the first to want to sign up for the next camp. Our director has 30 years of experience working with teens and running camps of all kinds. There will be other teens signed up for camp and if they are open to trying something new they will have fun and make connections with other teens who understand a little of what they are going through.
Do the kids sit around and talk about their feelings all day?
Camp is not designed to be a therapy session. Our goal is to provide an environment where the kids can build community and experiences that parallel their parent’s Camp Widow experience and allow them to grow through the event together. We have an incredible team in place that will accompany your child and help them to make meaningful connections with other children for whom the death of a parent is part of their lives. We try to keep camp as interactive and fun as possible while incorporating talking into the activities in an organic way.

Can you provide one on one support for my handicapped/special needs child?
As much as we would love to provide this type of support we are unfortunately not equipped to do so. Our camp is entirely volunteer run and we cannot guarantee that someone would be available with the training needed to fully support your child. That said, we welcome any personal helpers that you would like to send with your child as long as they are willing to complete or provide the Livescan background check required of all of our volunteers.
Why does my child’s personal aide need to complete Livescan?
For the safety and protection of all of our campers we require all adult volunteers to complete a Livescan background check.
Are volunteers required to have a background check?
Yes, for the safety and protection of all of our campers we require all adult volunteers to complete a Livescan background check or provide proof of a similar background check completed within the past year.
