Simone Polak
Simone has led a life of service, as a NYC EMS Medical Technician, a Medical/Surgical Technician in the US Air Force Reserves, and from 1989 to her retirement in 2015, she served the Maui community as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and a District Family Court Judge (2004-2010).
After a beautiful 20 years relationship, Simone lost her life partner Maria Leticia Escamilla to Multiple Myeloma/Plasma Cell Leukemia after a valiant 4.5 years struggle in 2012, shortly before same-sex marriage became legal in Hawaii.
Fueled by a desire to continuously honor Leticia, Simone has a passion for volunteering with diverse organizations in medicine, cancer prevention and grief recovery (Volunteer Unit Coordinator-Maui County Health Volunteers, a Medical Reserve Corps, Kaiser Permanente Patient & Family Advisory Council, Advisory Board Member to CONNECT Cancer Prevention Study, and Soaring Spirits International Camp Widow program).
Simone holds BA/MA and Juris Doctor degrees, and a Masters Level 1 Year Certificate in Aging and Applied Thanatology.
