Russell Pruden

Russell Pruden
Russell Pruden

In 2020, Russell Pruden’s life changed forever when his partner of nearly seven years, Steve Schroeder, passed away suddenly and tragically at the age of 46. At 49, Russell found himself navigating profound grief, leaving behind the Fort Lauderdale home they had shared and the vibrant life they had built together as avid runners and passionate world travelers. In the wake of this devastating loss, Russell chose a path of healing and transformation. He sold their Florida home and relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he has since built a life defined by community, athletic passion, and helping others.

Today, Russell channels his energy into purposeful endeavors that keep him active and connected:

Family: He is a proud dog dad to his two devoted pups, Oscar and Blue.
Athletics: He is an active member of the Atlanta Rainbow Trout, training and competing in swimming.
Service: Dedicated to helping others navigate the difficult journey of loss, he volunteers with Soaring Spirits, an organization that provides support and community for widowed individuals.

Russell’s dedication to swimming recently took him to The Gay Games in Spain representing Team USA. He turned years of hard work into an incredible international success, bringing home one silver medal and two bronze medals.

Through grief and transition, Russell has honored Steve’s memory by doing his best embracing life fully—proving that hope, strength, and new beginnings are always possible.
