Andrea Meyerson
Andrea Meyerson is an award-winning creator of films, television programming, and live productions. As founder and president of StandOut Productions, she has produced and directed more than 30 films and television specials, for Netflix, Showtime, Viacom’s Logo Network, and several Canadian networks.
In 1995, Andrea founded Women On A Roll, one of the country’s largest social organizations for lesbians. Now in its 29th year, WOAR focuses on worldwide travel as well as unique social and cultural opportunities for the community.
Two years later, she founded StandOut Productions and started producing live events featuring entertainers such as Brandi Carlile, Wanda Sykes, Indigo Girls, k.d. lang, and Joan Armatrading. Andrea also produced and hosted 40 episodes of her vlog, All Access Pass, for AfterEllen.com. Along with interviewing celebrities such as Cybill Shepherd, Heart, Jane Lynch, and Margaret Cho, she used the platform to showcase up and coming talent.
In 2002, Andrea produced and directed the award-winning documentary LAUGHING MATTERS. The critically acclaimed film spawned three award-winning sequels. To date, she has produced and directed 12 feature length documentaries, all with the intention to educate, enlighten, and entertain. Through her unique perspective, Andrea has provided a voice for the LGBTQ community by documenting, sharing, and preserving its rich history and culture.
Andrea has been recognized both within and outside the LGBTQ community with multiple awards. A partial list includes: being the first openly gay recipient of YWCA’s “Women of Achievement Award” in Arts & Entertainment, the Human Rights Campaign’s “Local Hero Award,” and the Los Angeles LGBTQ Center’s L.A.C.E. (Lesbians Active in Community Empowerment) Award. In 2019, the Hollywood Women’s Film Festival honored her with the “Dorothy Arzner Award” for LGBTQ Impact in Film. In 2020, she was acknowledged with the “Visionary
Award” from The L-Fund and was a California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus Honoree.
When the pandemic hit, Andrea quickly responded to the needs of the lesbian community by launching Women On The Net on Zoom. Curating, producing, and hosting more than 600 virtual events in 2020 and 2021, she created an online community for lesbians all over the country.
Andrea is currently co-writing her first full-length feature film, and is also in production on her 13th documentary: telling the story of Karen Williams, the first out black lesbian comedian.
Andrea lost her wife to a rare and aggressive cancer in 2022. Her loss was profound but her journey as a storyteller did not end. As she works through her grief, Andrea Meyerson continues to evolve, using the powerful impact of both new and legacy media to share her personal journey as well as capture and
preserve LGBTQ history.
