In 2015 my wife Rose was diagnosed with an aggressive form of stage 4 appendix cancer. Accepting the terminal diagnosis from the beginning, she endured 26 rounds of chemo and five rounds of an experimental drug. She did this for our daughters and she would not give up without a fight and neither would we. In May 2017 she elected to use MAiD to have a dignified passing.
I walked into my new life head on. I am determined to make grieving a natural part of my life. I will consume it, it will not consume me.
Being a Torontonian, my first Camp Widow was in November 2017. I have attended 4 camps so far and have met many wonderful widows, men and women. The camp experience made me realize I have the resilience to heal. I wanted to continue to use my grief journey as a teaching tool by walking with other people on the same path.
I currently co-facilitate an online men's group through Hummingbird center of Hope and provide one on one grief support through a group at Scarborough centre for Healthy Communities.
